RE: Chinese ATVs?

My dealer's service department has a sign up behind the counter ->
We don't work on Chinese junk. We can't get parts for them either.
Makes me think you better look at them like a disposable lighter if you decide to buy one.

RE: Diesel fuel dumb question of the Decade

Fresh?
Diesel fuel is good for 20+ years if stored properly.
So what's the big deal about it being fresh?
This is what I've heard about:
diesel fuel
I don't have any first-hand experience and I hope never to have any.

RE: Diesel fuel dumb question of the Decade

Things to check for diesel is whether:
it's ultra-low sulfur diesel (if you need ulsd) ;
it's taxed for highway use (as opposed to off-road diesel);
they sell enough to keep it fresh and clean from contaminants.

RE: Renting an RV for a family vacation

Don't forget to watch the movie "RV" before you go.
And follow all procedures exactly as Robin Williams did ...

RE: F450's owners

I think dually's just suck in snow. I have the traction tires but haven't really used them in snow yet, except for a dusting last winter.
I have heard people complain the traction tires make the truck more unstable on the highway, especially in grooved pavement.
Make sure you stay with proper load range, so that in itself probably cuts down your options. Go to tirerack.com and enter criteria to search for options and see what other have to say about their performance.

RE: What all adds to the weight of a TH?

Only way to know for sure is to get it weighed loaded up as you would be ready to hit the road. The brochure probably doesn't include the optional equipment such as a generator, definitely doesn't include food, clothes, beer (or if you prefer, Bud Light), but may include fresh water.

RE: What all adds to the weight of a TH?

I agree with everything kejsj30 pointed out above.
If you are interested in GVWR of the truck, then it's really pin weight that matters. A TH usually has a generator and it's often up front, so it adds to pin weight.
The layout of a TH often minimizes weight behind the axles (to allow for the toys behind the axles), thus increasing weight in front of the axles and pin weight.
Mine tows better with toys in there than without as I think it balances load out a little better.

RE: Permits for Utah and Colorado

You guys are kidding right. Why did they do this ?!?! To get more money. Every state is hurting and they are just passing it on, and it's even better to pass on to out-of-state people cause they don't have to buy their votes.

I don't suppose you have a washer hookup that you're not using ? or one that you are using and can tap into ?

RE: I have a 2004 F350. How much toyhauler can I really tow?

I've been looking at the 24K Signature and found it on etrailer.com. By the way, they do sell the underbed kit for the 2008 F450:
Yes reese does make the rails for the 24K, that what I took off of my F450 when I got it, it's for sale.
Manufacturer part number ?

http://www.etrailer.com/p-30073.htm
The posted weight on this hitch is 124 lbs. That doesn't seem much heavier than many of the other hitches out there. I've been told by a local hitch installer that the Pullrite hitches are the REALLY heavy hitches.
That's the one I bought and it's an 18k rail kit. It does fit aa F450.
It comes in several boxes, but it seemed heavier than that to me as I was dragging the boxes around. Maybe I didn't eat my Wheaties that day...

RE: I have a 2004 F350. How much toyhauler can I really tow?

The 24k Sig Series installs just like all other Reese Sig Series hitches. I bought mine from e-trailer.com. Problem is Reese doesn't make 24k rails yet (or they didn't about 10 months ago), so I had to settle for 18k rails with a 24K hitch. Bummer...
Oh, and IT IS ONE HEAVY PIECE OF METAL !

I did not hear any any problems with 4.88 gears, just high gpm ... whoops ... I meant low mpg.

RE: I have a 2004 F350. How much toyhauler can I really tow?

You might want to reconsider the 4.88 rear and go with 4.30. Ford stopped offering the 4.88 with job 3 builds in January, but left the tow rating the same. Hopefully this will not be your daily driver. If it is, you'll probably not be happy, except when you're towing.
Hope it works out for you.

Everyone that talks about helping by adding air bags gives me a :). If the truck were designed for that much pin weight, you wouldln't need air bags.

RE: Help w/ Plans - Finger Lakes

Went there this summer. There are beautiful water falls all over the place.
Shequaga Falls in Montour Falls, NY - water falls in the center of town
Another water fall in a small regional/county park on the south side of the lake. A short walk to get to falls and then you can wade into the falls basin and stand in the falling water (maybe too cool to do that now). I forget the name.
Belhurst Castle in Geneva, NY
wineries about every 2 or 3 miles while circling Lake Seneca
Glenn H Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY

RE: Auto Transmission Braking in a Diesel

Tow/Haul mode in a Ford is unbelievable at downshifting automatically. The computer controls the whole thing, including the torque converter.
I don't know Dodge's, but don't they have something similar ?
